Pawn Chess Club is a pop-up chess club designed to bring people together to play chess in a friendly, low-stakes environment that welcomes both new and experienced players (in that order).

Pawn Chess Club was founded by Simone Robert and Isabel Münter in May 2023. After searching for an easygoing place to play chess with their friends, they decided to build their own. Pawn's first event welcomed fifty friends and family in the private dining room of Lower East Side hotspot, Casino. Now, their events frequently triple this original guest count, gathering players new and old around the board. Pawn's goal is to foster a warm environment that welcomes people of all backgrounds to the game of chess in pursuit of connection across (or away from) the board.
