National Sawdust and McNally Jackson are thrilled to present Invisible Revealed: A Tribute to Jill Steinberg, a celebration and conversation at the Williamsburg store. Join prolific photographer Jill Steinberg in conversation with National Sawdust co-founder and artistic director Paola Prestini and Jeffrey Zeigler to celebrate the launch of Steinberg's evocative photo anthology.

The evening will start with a conversation between Paola and Jeffrey, followed by a signing and refreshments. Copies of the books will be available for purchase at the event. Half of the proceeds from book sales at this event will benefit the Impact Lab Endowment, aimed at creating an ecosystem for sharing innovative ideas and best practices among creatives and presenting organizations, in collaboration with VIA & National Sawdust.

National Sawdust commissions, produces, and presents cultural programming rooted in sound, supporting artists in various disciplines who are passionate about experimentation and innovation. In its intimate venue equipped with a state-of-the-art spatial sound system, National Sawdust connects audiences to the performing arts’ powers to inspire deep thinking, joy, and uphold human dignity.


Author HeadshotJill Steinberg is the Board President of National Sawdust, a nonprofit venue whose mission is rooted in music discovery that is open, inclusive, and based in active mentorship of emerging artists, while building new audiences and communities of music devotees. Jill is a member and official photographer of the Up Until Now Collective that develops and produces new interdisciplinary work that explores empathy, intimacy, and community. She is the Board chair of VisionIntoArt, an interdisciplinary company founded by Paola Prestini, whose mission is to create, produce, and curate visionary art and music projects which expand the frontiers of culture. Additionally, she is a photographer who captures the many incarnations of live performance from opera to theater to dance to jazz to orchestral and chamber music to film.

 

Author HeadshotComposer Paola Prestini has cultivated a uniquely expansive artistic voice, through works that transcend genre and discipline and projects whose global impact reverberates far beyond the walls of the concert hall. Prestini was named one of the Top 35 Female Composers in Classical Music by the Washington Post, one of the top 100 Composers in the World by NPR, and one of the Top 30 Professionals of the Year by Musical America. As Co-Founder of National Sawdust, she has collaborated with luminaries like poet Robin Coste Lewis, visual artists Julie Mehretu and Nick Cave, and musical legends David Byrne, Philip Glass and Renée Fleming, and her works have been performed throughout the world.

Author HeadshotJeffrey Zeigler is one of the most innovative and versatile cellists of our time. During his eight year tenure as the cellist of the internationally renowned Kronos Quartet, he was the recipient of the Avery Fisher Prize, the Polar Music Prize, the President’s Merit Award from the National Academy of Recorded Arts (Grammy’s), the Chamber Music America National Service Award and The Asia Society's Cultural Achievement Award. Since then, his multifaceted career has led to collaborations and recordings with a wide array of artists and institutions, from Philip Glass to Radiolab to Amazon Prime’s Golden Globe Award winning series Mozart in the Jungle.
